Subscription
How does the free trial work?
New subscribers get a free trial. The length is shown on the subscription screen before you start. You won't be charged if you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. After that, the subscription renews monthly until you cancel it.
How do I cancel?
- Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Shinren.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
You can also get there from Shinren: Account → Manage Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel the subscription; Apple only stops charging when you cancel it.
I paid but Shinren is still locked
Go to Account → Restore Purchases, and make sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account you subscribed with. If it's still locked, email us with the date of purchase. Your Apple receipt email is enough.
"This subscription belongs to another account"
A subscription works for one Shinren account at a time. If you subscribed while signed in to a different Shinren account on the same Apple Account, you can tap Move It to This Account. The other account then loses access, but keeps its decks and progress.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your data
How do I use Shinren on another iPhone or iPad?
Sign in with the same account. Your decks, words, progress and goals are backed up and sync automatically. You can also sync straight away from Account → Sync Now.
"This iPhone has data from another account"
This appears when you sign in to a different account on a device that holds another account's decks. Keep adds them to the account you're signed in to now. Remove deletes them from this device and downloads this account's data instead.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account → Delete Account. This removes your account and all your synced data from our servers, and can't be undone. Remember to cancel your subscription separately in your iPhone's settings.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, tap Sign in with email, then Forgot your password?, and follow the link we email you.
Using Shinren
What can I import?
PDFs, photos of printed Japanese, subtitle files (.srt, .ass, .vtt), zip archives of these, plain text, and web pages. Use the Import button on the Decks tab, or share into Shinren from another app. Files are read on your device; only the words you choose to save are synced.
A word has the wrong reading or meaning
Email us the word and the sentence it was in. Shinren's dictionary comes from JMdict and corrections help everyone.
